Second District Congressman Dr. Brad Wenstrup was the guest speaker for the 2013 Highland County Republican Party Lincoln Day dinner held Thursday, Feb. 21 at the First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro.
Wenstrup was elected to Congress in November 2012. He is a small business owner, doctor and military veteran who served a year’s deployment to Iraq.
In 2005, Wenstrup deployed for a year of active duty in Iraq where he served as a combat surgeon with the 344th Combat Support Hospital. For his service and actions in Iraq, Wenstrup was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge.
He has been appointed to the House Armed Services Committee, which has jurisdiction for general defense policy, the Department of Defense, Department of Energy and numerous individual programs and initiatives.
Chuck Emery honored
• During the Thursday evening event, Sugar Tree Ridge resident Chuck Emery was honored at the 2013 Highland County Republican of the Year.
Emery has volunteered numerous hours to assist with local campaigns, in addition to serving on the Festival of the Bells Committee and as a president of the SATH (Supplemental Assistance to the Handicapped) Board of Trustees.
Dick Counter honored
• Former Ohio Senator and current Agriculture Director David Daniels presented a service award to Highland County Central Committee President Dick Counter in recognition of Counter’s many years of service to the community of Greenfield and to the Republican Party, as well as for his military service to the country.(0) Comments
Like many conservatives, I owe much of my political understanding to President Reagan. Today marks his 102nd Birthday.
As Monica and I often do on long drives; a few weeks ago, on our way to Washington, we listened to a CD of some of Reagan’s old radio addresses from the 1970s. One, “Shaping the World for 100 Years to Come” seemed particularly poignant.(0) Comments
